Hugh O’Neill anniversary

Turas Fíllte nagClann 2016, (The Return of the Clans 2016)

As you will no doubt be aware, 2016 commemorates the 400th anniversary of the passing of Aodh Mór Ó Néill, Hugh “The Great” O'Neill (1550 –1616), Earl of Tír Eoghain (Tyrone), Chieftain of Ulster, Leader of the Clan Uí Neill, “The O’Neill”.  To mark this unique occasion, the Ancient Clan O’Neill calls upon our clans folk across the globe to play their part in commemorating the history of our great family name, a name that has resonated throughout the world for generations.

There is hardly a part of the world that hasn’t been influenced, shaped and formed by the red hand of the Uí Néill and those descended from the greatest clan ever to set forth from the shores of Ireland.

In 2016 the Ancient Clan O’Neill will join with our colleagues in the heart of our ancestral homeland in Tyrone, Armagh and South Derry to take part in Turas Fíllte nagClann 2016, (The Return of the Clans 2016), eight days of family fun, craic, music and festivities (Saturday 18th – Saturday 25th June 2016) to commemorate the life and celebrate the lasting legacy of “The Great Uí Neill”, bringing to life the key O’Neill sites of The Hill of O’Neill, Dungannon and Tulach Og (Tullaghoge Fort), Cookstown in the heart of O’Neill country.

Members can keep up to date on plans for Turas Fíllte nagClann 2016 on this site and on Facebook.
